Oh no! The Earth's axis is tilted and now everyone has to change their sign! Alright I have seen so many posts on facebook regarding the article on KSL about this. Um? I don't see what the big deal is. I'm not saying the I believe that where the earth was in relation to the stars when you were born has anything to do with what your actual personality will be or what your future will hold. But if I did, my question would be this: Why does it matter where the astrological sign is now? Wouldn't it be more important to figure out what your sign was on the date you were born?
I looked a little farther into astrology, cause I'm kinda interested in how it works. On msn.com there is the horoscope link and while on that page there is a link to Learn about astrology. This is actually what it says about your sign:
"When people ask, "What's your sign?" they are referring to your Sun Sign. Your Sun Sign is where the Sun was positioned in the Zodiac on the exact date, time, and place that you were born. While the Sun's placement is only a very small part of your overall horoscope, it can tell us a lot about our character - what motivates us, our main personality traits, and our strengths and weaknesses. Once you know what makes your Sun Sign tick, reading your Daily, Monthly, and Yearly Horoscopes will be even more enjoyable!"
I personally think its a crock of bull, because really what does any of that have to do with your overall personality... Plus when you actually look at horoscopes have you ever noticed how vague they are. I looked up my sign on two different websites. Google and MSN. Lets compare shall we?
MSN says: "Seek some consolation from a person who is older and more experienced than you are. Don't let pride prevent you from gaining insight and direction from a parent or anyone else in your life who is more senior. Chances are they have the answers to problems you've been struggling with. Bite the bullet and just ask their opinion. Even if this person tends to meddle when you don't want it, don't discount their ability to give sound advice"
Google says: "Give yourself a break instead of trying to control evens today. No one doubts your strength or your ability to handle even the most complex situations. Show your gentler side and someone could well climb down off the fence. Gaining their support could be much easier than you think, so offer them the chance to come to meet you on their own time."
If this type of this were actually legit, wouldn't you think that the two horoscopes would be giving me similar advise? And I suppose that if you do look at it, you can interpret some of it the same. Regardless when I was in high school I would look this stuff up, and if I didn't like the horoscope one site gave me I would just go to another until I found one that fit my situation.
Another thing that bugs me is the personality factor. When you look up the traits of a certain sign it lists what attributes a person from that sign should have. Again I looked mine up on msn. "Aries: The first sign of the Zodiac; Aries is a fire sign and is ruled by the planet Mars. Its symbols is the Ram, the key words for Aries are energetic, innovative, assertive, leader, and competitive." Okay I can be energetic, and I suppose assertive, maybe even innovative, but that is something that you will have to gage for yourself. Who out there isn't at times though? As for a leader, I only lead if I have to. I don't take charge wherever there is a gathering of people, and I compete only when it comes to some things, but most the time I don't really care.
On another note, it's not like the axis of the earth just all the sudden changed. This has been happening gradually, so really the sign has been off for probably 100 years. You can find more info about this on this site.
This whole rant is probably a good sign that I am an English major. Hah! It does seem a lot like an essay doesn't it? At least I didn't go too in depth with it though.
